Funeral For Flowers

Year:

2025

We often give flowers to our loved ones to celebrate them, but flowers wither too. ‘Funeral For Flowers' is a photo series that celebrates death, not as a sorrowful end, but as an important part of the human experience. I approach this series with intention by creating contrast of color and imagery to give the viewer a chance to dissect and reflect on my art. I seek to comfort those who may fear or avoid the idea of death, offering them a space to find peace and comfort.

The theme of remembrance beyond the grave is central to my work, as I aim to create a space where viewers can reflect on and celebrate their passed loved ones. In my culture we celebrate our passed loved ones with parades, performances, and decorated altars, all which are important for me to represent in my work. Death is performative.

Ultimately this series is an invitation for viewers to pause, reflect, and celebrate the lives of those no longer with us. Fostering a gentle acceptance of death as a part of our shared human journey.
